Back to Grant Recipient List

Up to $65,000 in Matching Grants Have Been Awarded to Animals Shelters to Fund Needs Assessments

CINCINNATI, OH – The Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design announced three animal shelters have been awarded matching grants to conduct needs assessments and/or fund architectural drawings. Each animal shelter has been awarded a matching grant of up to $3,000. Since its inception, the Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design has awarded up to $65,000 in matching grants to 17 recipients.

Denison Animal Welfare Group in Denison, TX was awarded a matching grant of $3,000 for a needs assessment to build a new facility, as they adopted approximately 800 dogs and 400 cats last year out of decommissioned fire station. They have retained Shelter Planners of America to coordinate the process.

Northern Neck Partners for Pets in Irvington, VA was awarded a matching grant of $3,000 for a needs assessment to build a private no-kill animal shelter to serve four counties in Virginia's Northern Neck. Northern Neck Partners for Pets is in conversations with qualified architectural firms to identify a partner to provide shelter for all healthy or treatable, adoptable dogs and cats in the Northern Neck once they are threatened with euthanasia.

The Clay County Humane Society in Brazil, IN was awarded a matching grant of $3,000 for a needs assessment or architectural drawings to remodel an existing facility. Needs include indoor/outdoor runs to eliminate dogs living in outside kennels and a communal space for cats.

“Matching grants from the Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design help fund important first steps for building or remodeling animal shelters and rescue organizations,” said Greg Taylor, Executive Director of the Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design. “A needs assessment and architectural plans help ensure facilities can successfully meet the needs of their community and achieve their funding goals.”

The Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design awards matching grants to animal shelters in the United States. The matching grants enable shelters across the United States to fund an initial needs assessment and architectural consultation, providing the hard data necessary to quantify the size and scope of the new facility or remodel, and to start the process correctly and professionally with schematic architectural drawings.

Mason Company established the Mason Foundation for Animal Shelter Design as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation to enable animal shelters to work with architects and needs assessment providers on their project.
